We could really use your help!

Keep the Information Flowing

Please tell us about events that are happening in and around your region, especially if they contribute to the strengthening of networks of community music making activists.  For example, we’d love to hear about song swaps, leaders' gathering days, big sings (etc.) which have been organised in your region - the more comprehensive our picture of what's going on across the state, the more effective we can be in advocating for our movement.

Plus, we can publicise your group or event to hundreds of community music making enthusiasts via our newsletters!

Community Music Victoria Inc. needs $$$

At the moment, we receive around 80% of our income from State and Federal Government agencies.

Virtually all of these funds are used to support the huge range of specific programs we operate.  This enables us to keep fee prices for attendees way below the actual program cost.

What’s difficult to support with the government funding we receive (to the level that's required anyway) are the day-to-day boring bits.  You know, answering the phone, paying the rent and the auditor, maintaining the website and the database, producing the newsletters and the email bulletins…

To be able to keep doing this stuff and maintain an office which has the resources that can keep up the slog of finding, applying for and acquitting government funding, we need more money than we currently have.

Here are some ways you could help:

Make a tax deductible donation

To secure deductibility you'll need to fill in this form, but did you know you can also deposit funds directly into the CMV bank account?

CMV BSB:  063-123

CMV Account Number:  10128694

You'll still need to complete this tax deduction form,  email it us, and we’ll send you the tax deduction certificate.

Become a paid-up financial member of CMV

If you've been benefiting from CMV stuff, now is the time to say thanks and join up.  It only costs $25 a year ($15 concession) or $35 for your group, and that's way less than a dollar a week.  We're considering the idea of arranging CMV member discounts to things, and membership already guarantees you a bi-monthly newsletter -  Shout!.  If you’d like to become a CMV member (and contribute toward our financial well-being), please fill in this form.

You can also secure your membership via a direct bank-to-bank funds transfer.

CMV BSB:  063-123

CMV Account Number:  10128694

After you've completed the funds transfer, simply complete this form and mail, fax or email it back to us.  Be sure to include your full name, your group's name (if applicable), and the type of membership you're purchasing, OR

Throw a rent party or CMV benefit gig

Your group might like to think about mounting a special fund-raising gig on our behalf - maybe a wintersong event with mulled wine and hot buttered rum?  Or a house-concert with a slap-up supper?  Or maybe a family singing afternoon?  “Bring the kids and your granny, and sing away the winter blues with us!”  (And include a chook raffle.  Maybe.)  Or maybe something exotic and classy?  Ooh-la-la!  Whatever flavour your fund-raiser takes, we’re sure it’ll be fun (and we’ll be extremely appreciative of your efforts)!

Donate a skill

Most of our constituency have marketable skills other than their capacity to make and / or lead musical groups (eg, photography, web design, individual instrumental teaching / making, landscape gardening, etc.).  Maybe you could offer to do a fully paid-for, one-off job and give us the fee!  (Or portion thereof.)  This spreads the well-being around - you feel righteous giving us the fee and the person paying you feels righteous 'cause they know where their money's going (and that it’s for a good cause)!  Alternatively, you could offer to do a one-off job at minimum cost and we could dutch auction it!

Dob in a donor

If you have a cashed-up friend or relative with an interest in group singing, maybe you could suggest they make a donation?

Invent your own way of supporting our existence

One thing we're sure of is that our constituency is possessed of powerful imaginations.  Usually they’re applied to the process of music-making, but we're hoping that, for just a moment, these amazing imaginations can be turned to the act of raising money.

And now it's over to you.  Please feel free to email us with massive promises and / or creative fund-raising suggestions, but please be mindful that right now, we’re “all hands on deck” just trying to keep the CMV engines running, and so we’d like to try to keep responses to this request within the bounds of reality.  We’d also appreciate it if you could please keep in mind the fact that CMV’s goal is to encourage and foster the development and participation in group singing, so don’t be suggesting a massive investment of time and resources requiring a commitment from us which is guaranteed to transform CMV into a major commercial earner, ya hear?  (That’d be bad).

Seriously though, we would be ridiculously appreciative of any contributions you or your group can make, and remain enthusiastically hopeful our network of group music-makers will find it in their pockets to “give it up” for CMV…
