We Can All Make Music.
There's a meeting here!
Notes to help introduce singing together to “new” agencies
What we do
training and on-going
counseling for singing leaders & groups.
assisting groups and agencies
to develop regular opportunities for singing with others.
Group singing, not singing groups
In the singing circle, the
process is the product.
People congregating to sing together in the “here and now” are primarily concerned with the activity of music making and not in in its presentation or performance.
Group
singing is also locally led, owned and initiated.
Why?
There’s
no better way for people to enjoy being with others. Group singing is also the essential basis for
ensuring community, connectedness and well-being.
Confidence
building - it's both the effect of singing, and describes what we do.
How?
Not entering without an invitation.
Investigation and audit. That is,
being careful not to step on toes, not to compete with current activities, not
to duplicate effort, and not to re-invent the wheel.
Co-operating with workers and activists at their location.
Identifying interested persons (potential participants and potential
leaders).
Meeting with participants and group leaders to discuss their wishes and
outline how we can help assist their achievement.
(Sometimes) Scheduling a couple of demonstrations of the process.
Encouraging cross-skilling by arranging for a leadership group to observe other
leaders at work and / or arranging other forms of leadership skill development.
(Sometimes) Providing leadership for the first couple of sessions for a new
singing group.
(Sometimes) Observing leaders of new groups at work and offering positive
advice.
Being available for on-going conversation, discussion or advice.
Helping the leadership group to connect with the leaders
network.
What do we want?
Depends
who's asking.
Often, nothing. If something,
then:
The opportunity to show interested parties what we can do.
Fees for demonstration.
Subsidised attendance of agency’s staff and clients at our training
days.
CMV - making a sound world together.
