We Can All Make Music.

Victoria Sings – What it is and why

Activities

Through 'Victoria Sings', CMV enhances the skills and confidence of local people to set up and maintain music making opportunities in their communities.
Alongside these introductory initiatives, CMV co-ordinates and develops the self-help network which is an on-going source of advice, skill and experience sharing, and counselling for practitioners.
CMV also assists individuals to find opportunities to make music with others and community groups to integrate group music-making into their current activities.

Purpose

To make a significant contribution to state-wide community development through building the confidence of everyday people, in all their diversity, and to assist them in the re-discovery of their own innate capacities to engage in and enjoy making music together.

Because

Making music together is an effective way to:

*       learn to be, and to enjoy being, together.

*       develop and sustain social connections.

*       reinforce the expectation that collaborative action is rewarding, fulfilling and fun.

Reaching

All Victorians, with a particular focus on:

*       isolated rural communities.

*       persons for whom the English language is unfamiliar.

*       young people.

*       enhancing the functions of existing community development initiatives.

Outcomes

A state-wide network of independent, self-sustaining and re-generative group music-making opportunities, sessions, circles and groups that:

*       are engaged with their communities.

*       welcome newcomers.

*       nurture their participants.

*       are proudly diverse.

Community-based music making will have been woven back into the fabric of Victorian society, thereby enhancing its capacity to sustain the health and well-being of its members.
